Solo un funambolo della scena come Silvio Orlando poteva riuscire nel compito di dare corpo e voce ai diversi personaggi che affollano la vita di Momò, alias Mohamed: un bambino arabo che vive a Belleville, Parigi, nei primi anni ’70. In un incredibile one-man-show, basato sul romanzo di Romain Gary “La vie devant soi” e diretto dallo stesso Orlando, in scena al teatro Nuovo di Napoli, l’attore napoletano riesce a condurci con sapiente disinvoltura tra episodi umoristici e momenti struggenti della vita di un piccolo paria della società, cresciuto per carità da Madame Rosa, ex prostituta ebrea che tira avanti ospitando i bambini di prostitute più giovani e di varia origine etnica. L’innocenza con cui Silvio-Momò rivela il dramma dell’orfano, alla ricerca di un’ improbabile madre che gli conceda un briciolo della sua attenzione e gli restituisca così senso e identità, è sicuramente l’aspetto più toccante della sua interpretazione; ma l’elemento caricaturale caratterizzante gli altri personaggi strappa più di una risata al pubblico, entusiasta della varietà della performance e del virtuosismo del protagonista. La convivenza con il diverso, sottolineata dalla mescolanza di musiche francesi, africane e klezmer; il rapporto con la madre, che costruisce l’identità; la paura del futuro quando il presente è informe e precario sono i temi, di forte attualità, che rendono il lavoro intenso e significativo oggi più che mai. Conclude la pièce un inatteso spazio musicale che vede Orlando eseguire, al flauto traverso, con i suoi musicisti – presenti anche durante alcuni brevi intermezzi – un brano tradizionale klezmer, dopo aver dichiarato, con la solita spiazzante autoironia: ‘Ho sempre amato la musica, ma è stato un amore non ricambiato’.
