Martone presenta la sua interpretazione dell’Otello di Verdi, ambientata in un moderno scenario del Medio Oriente
Dal 21 novembre fino al 14 dicembre sarà possibile vedere al Teatro San Carlo di Napoli “Otello”, penultima opera di Verdi ispirata alla tragedia di Shakespeare, con libretto di Arrigo Boito. Il dramma è diviso in 4 atti e si sviluppa in circa 3 ore.
Mario Martone, direttore della regia, presenta al pubblico una versione contemporanea dell’opera, scegliendo come ambientazione uno scenario del Medio Oriente, in cui si muovono personaggi vestiti con tute mimetiche. Per rispettare la tradizione, anche qui, come nella versione del 1887, ha grande rilievo Desdemona, l’eroina femminile destinata ad essere uccisa da Otello per gelosia: fa molto riflettere come il tema risulti ancora attualissimo, soprattutto alla luce della giornata contro la violenza sulle donne del 25 novembre.
Alla prima dello spettacolo si è presentato anche Sergio Mattarella, accompagnato dalle figlie e accolto da una standing ovation sulle note dell’Inno di Mameli. In platea, invece, spiccava Toni Servillo, anche in vista del suo recente successo nel film di Sorrentino. Tra il pubblico, riuniti il presidente della regione De Luca e il sindaco di Napoli Manfredi.
Lo spettacolo si è concluso con una serie di critiche, probabilmente a causa della scelta di cambiare l’ambientazione della vicenda, ma subito dopo un lungo applauso ha coperto qualsiasi commento negativo.
Tra gli artisti al centro della scena vanno segnalati Jonas Kaufmann, il celebre tenore nei panni di Otello, Igor Golovatenko, che interpreta Iago, e Maria Agresta, soprano di origini campane nelle vesti della tanto apprezzata Desdemona. Per quanto riguarda la musica, invece, Josè Luis Basso dirige il coro del teatro San Carlo.
Lo spettacolo ha entusiasmato molto la scena italiaao e sono stati diversi gli apprezzamenti. Gianfranco Capitta, ad esempio, scrive sul Manifesto: ”L’opera di Verdi, nelle mani e nella sensibilità di Martone, Mariotti e Palli, diviene una sorta di viaggio esperienziale, e anche la scoperta di vedere oltre la cronaca la radice profonda di credenze e comportamenti”.
