Tornano le Giornate Fai per le scuole: visite guidate anche nella città di Portici

Dal 22 al 27 novembre 2021 tornano le giornate Fai per le scuole italiane. Un progetto che permette agli studenti, tramite visite guidate, di scoprire nuovi luoghi.

Quest’anno gli studenti del Liceo “Quinto Orazio Flacco”, in particolar modo alcuni tra quelli che hanno preso parte al percorso di PCTO, saranno accompagnati dagli apprendisti Ciceroniani nella visita della chiesa e del convento di Sant’Antonio a Portici.

Scopriamo insieme di cosa si tratta!

Il convento con l’annessa chiesa di Sant’Antonio, in via Università a Portici (a pochi passi dal palazzo reale), rappresentano l’edificio religioso più antico della città, nonché il più antico convento dell’Italia Meridionale. Per volere del nobile napoletano Gualtiero Galeota, fu costruito nella seconda metà del XIV secolo ( non è certa la data a causa della mancanza di fonti originali) in onore di San Francesco. Assunse sempre più importanza a partire dal ‘700,  vista la vicinanza alla reggia estiva della corte borbonica voluta da re Carlo III.

Tra le curiosità di questo edificio, si conosce la storia legata ai due pozzi: il primo (che si trovava in fondo al chiosco) è stato soprannominato di “San Francesco” perché qui il santo nel 1036, percuotendo la lava bituminosa con il suo bastone, avrebbe aperto il pozzo che, seccatosi, fu ripristinato da San Giacomo La Marca con un segno di croce. Il secondo è legato al miracolo di Sant’Antonio, che avrebbe riportato in superficie un bimbo caduto al suo interno.

Nel 1585, per volontà della comunità religiosa dei Frati Minori Conventuali, venne istituita nella chiesa una congregazione laica dedicata all’Immacolata, che si trasferì, verso la fine del ‘700, nell’attuale sede di via Immacolata.
Nel 1738, per volontà di Carlo di Borbone, la chiesa ed il convento furono dedicati a Sant’Antonio.

Negli anni la chiesa ha subito delle trasformazioni ed oggi è il risultato di rifacimenti post-tridentini con un impianto ad aula unica. I principali cambiamenti hanno interessato la navata centrale che fu riportata ad una sistemazione cinquecentesca.

 Il coro quadrangolare è sormontato da una pseudocupola a sesto ribassato con un interessante affresco del Mozzillo raffigurante la Gloria di Cristo, risalente al 1793. Sull’altare maggiore si trova il polittico raffigurante la Madonna col Bambino in trono, San Francesco e San Giovanni Battista, con Santi francescani, realizzato da Stefano Sparano nel 1513. A sinistra dell’altare maggiore, una lapide ricorda che Papa Pio IX, durante il suo esilio presso la corte dei Borbone, celebrò in questa chiesa la Santa Messa.


Nel campanile si trova una campana con la data di fusione del 1529, e la statua di Sant’Antonio è del ‘400. Dopo tanti secoli, dal 1981 questa chiesa è di nuovo parrocchia. All’interno del complesso si possono ammirare alcuni magnifici quadri e famose lapidi a ricordi dei vari avvenimenti storici vissuti dalla comunità.
