La schiavitù è uno dei fenomeni più controversi del mondo antico. Secondo il quotidiano britannico ”The Guardian”, il costo della costruzione è stato di circa 6.500 lavoratori immigrati morti, provenienti per lo più da India, Bangladesh, Nepal e Pakistan. I Norvegesi, prima della partita contro Gibilterra, valida per le qualificazioni ai mondiali in questione, sono scesi in campo indossando una t-shirt con scritto “Human Rights on & off the pitch” (Diritti umani, dentro e fuori dal campo). Purtroppo le denunce degli scandinavi e del quotidiano d’oltremanica non bastano, sono due piccole voci portatrici dell’accusa di un fenomeno gravissimo completamente abbandonato dall’opinione pubblica e dai media. Per non parlare delle istituzioni: Onu e governi nazionali dovrebbero avere la priorità di difendere i diritti umani. Secondo il Global Slavery Index, in India sarebbero presenti 14,3 milioni di schiavi, e noi del mondo occidentale contribuiamo a far incrementare ogni giorno questo fenomeno, comprando tappeti, scarpe ed altri prodotti realizzati sulla pelle degli esseri umani. Neanche la schiavitù in Occidente è da sottovalutare, proprio in Italia, secondo Fieragricoltura, sarebbero 400 mila le vittime del caporalato (pratica molto diffusa in settori come l’agricoltura e l’edilizia che si basa sullo sfruttamento criminale della manodopera a basso costo). Insomma la civiltà umana è nata e cresciuta con un cancro chiamato schiavitù, ben consolidato oggi nonostante sia generalmente delegittimato. Troppi gli interessi dietro questo fenomeno, ma speriamo che le voci fuori dal coro di Norvegia calcio e The Guardian siano un inizio che possa portare in futuro a sconfiggere l’ossimoro che accompagna da sempre l’umanità.
