Dopo anni di lotta contro il tumore, addio a Olivia Newton-John, l’attrice protagonista del celebre film “Grease” aveva 73 anni.

Una notizia che mai avremo immaginato in questi giorni è arrivata lunedì 8
agosto, l’attrice e cantante australiana celebre per l’interpretazione di Sandy nel
film cult Grease, si è spenta all’età di 73 anni. A diffondere l’amara notizia è stato il
marito John Easterling, con cui è stata sposata dal 2008, attraverso la pagina
Facebook della cantante. Nel post Easterling ha ricordato l’esperienza della moglie
con il cancro al seno che le era stato diagnosticato per la prima volta nel 1992, a 44
anni. Era guarita ma nel 2017 una ricaduta aveva costretto Olivia a combattere
nuovamente contro il tumore. Proprio nel 2017, il 31 maggio, l’attrice comunicò la
sospensione del suo tour LIV ON, annunciando nuove cure per una recidiva della
malattia che l’aveva colpita già 25 anni prima. Il dolore alla schiena che provava si
era infatti rivelato un tumore al seno con metastasi all’osso sacro. Ad agosto del
2019 diceva: “Non voglio sapere quanto mi resta, ogni giorno è un regalo”. Da anni
Newton-John raccontava pubblicamente la sua battaglia contro il tumore,
sensibilizzando il pubblico nel merito dell’importanza della ricerca, attraverso la sua
fondazione Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund, ed inviando tutta la sua vicinanza
a chi si stava trovando ad affrontare la stessa situazione. “Quando ti viene
diagnosticato il cancro o una grave malattia, improvvisamente ti viene posto davanti
un limite di tempo – raccontava nel 2019 l’attrice e cantante, in una delle ultime
interviste rilasciate, tra le più intense – Se qualcuno ti dice che ti restano sei mesi da
vivere, molto probabilmente andrà così perché ci crederai. Quindi per me,
psicologicamente, è meglio non avere idea di quanto si aspettano che io viva”. Fino
al 1978, Olivia Newton-John collezionò vari successi in ambito musicale, come un
quarto posto all’Eurovision Song Contest con il brano “Long live love”. La svolta
arrivò però proprio nel 1978, quando all’attrice e cantante venne assegnata la parte
di Sandy nel film musicale “Grease”: un successo inaspettato ed
enorme. “Grease” ancora oggi resta il musical di maggior successo nella storia
del cinema. Su Instagram arriva anche l’addio di John Travolta, il quale insieme a lei
era diventato una vera e propria icona, imitato nei look e nei movimenti da ragazzi e
ragazze di tutto il mondo. “Mia cara Olivia, – scrive sui social – hai reso le nostre vite
migliori. Ti voglio tanto bene. Ci vedremo lungo la strada e saremo di nuovo tutti
insieme. Tuo dal primo momento che ti ho visto e per sempre! Il tuo Danny, il tuo
John!”.
